Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
This week in my online bible study, “Yes To God”, Deuteronomy 6:5 is our memory verse. After reading and meditating on this verse this week, The Lord has shown me many things.
First, you can not take this verse and only do one part, such as the first, “Love God with all your Heart.” When loving The Lord, you have to use all 3 things… Heart, Soul, Strength. Each of these parts play an important role in Loving God.
We usually fall in love with someone by using our heart, however, to stay in love with them daily takes more than just the heart. We must also love with our Soul. We must go way down deep and find the love, because things will happen. Something during the day will grab us and make us mad, sad, anxious and the love will try to fade. We must not let anger still the love we have. We must try hard everyday to have the Love in our Heart and Soul.
The last one, our strength, was the one that was a little hard and confusing. I found a definition for Strength online at freedictionary.com: The ability to maintain a moral or intellectual position firmly. This means to be strong we must daily do things morally. We must treat others as we would like to be treated. We can not love God, if we do not love others as the Greatest Commandment states. It takes a lot of strength to love daily even when we may not feel like it, we are going through health problems, we can not see why God put us where we are and dealing with life’s everyday problems. But if we have the love in our heart and soul, that helps give us the strength we need to love.
Loving God with my heart and soul is easy, but adding the strength can be hard at times. We must remember to love God with all three and loving others will be so much easier. It will be a natural feeling we are able to do daily.
Dear Lord, thank you for loving me more than I could ever imagine someone loving me. I will Love you with my heart, soul and strength daily, hourly and every minute. Thank you for always being there for me. Amen.
