18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.
21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.
Your boss comes into the office while you are working hard on finishing something so you can get out of the office on time today and tells you to stop he needs you to go with him to a client’s office. WHAT!
Your husband comes rushing in from outside while you are in the middle of cleaning out your closets that you have put off for a while and wants you to go with him to the store. REALLY?
After already being on about every committee at church and your child’s school that you can possibly be, someone asks you to lead a small Bible Study. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Your mom calls and tells you her and your dad are coming to stay with you for a few days right in the middle of the busiest part of the school year. I’M RUNNING AWAY.
Nobody likes to be interrupted in the middle of our work or duties. No one likes to have a bomb through in the middle of you life or plans.
BUT sometimes that is when God calls us to do something AWESOME.
In the verses above, JESUS called out to the fisherman and said “COME FOLLOW ME.” Guess what they didn’t do. They did not complain about the interruption. They did not say to please wait a few days I need to handle something. They did not say No.
What would you had said if you were in the middle of your work, on a boat, and was asked to come follow some man? Really, don’t I look busy right now.
These fisherman dropped EVERYTHING and followed this man, JESUS. There was no complaining, arguing, or sadness. There must have been nothing but complete JOY.
Do you act joyful when God is calling you to do something? Do you just do it so others will see you doing it? Do you just do it because others are doing it? Do you just do it because?
I believe when God calls us He wants us to be JOYFUL. His Word tells us He will equip us if we just answer his call. If He is going to equip me, then I should be happy and JOYFUL to proceed.
What stops you from being JOYFUL when you feel God stirring in your heart to do something?
We should remember if God calls us, He will equip us. So be JOYFUL and go do that thing God is calling you to do. Do it with your whole heart. Drop whatever you have to and answer. The fisherman did and look what they became.
BE JOYFUL IN ALL YOU DO.
