Day 30 – Joy in the Reward

Revelation 22:12.  (KJV)

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

When you finish high school, your principal gives you a diploma.  When you say “I Do” at your wedding, you receive your new bride or groom.  When you work on your job, your employer pays you either weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.  When you are in a championship game and win, you are given a trophy or your prize.  When you invest well in your money, you will reap the benefits during retirement.

What do all these events have in common?

In each event, the person receive a reward for what they were doing.  Don’t we all love to receive something for our hard work and dedication.  Don’t we all like to receive recognition.

The same will be true when Jesus Christ comes back one day.  In the verse today in Revelation, the last chapter of the Bible, it reads He will come quickly and He will have His reward for each person.  I am not going to look so much at the quickly (which is another post in itself) but the reward each man will receive.

I wonder if He will hand out Gold medallions like at the Olympics.  I wonder if He will hand out Gold watches like at a retirement party.  I wonder if He will hand out a beautiful gold diamond ring.

From reading the Bible, I know we probably are not getting a medallion or a watch or even a ring.  I know we are getting something better than any of those but there are some things we must do first.

First, we must accept Jesus Christ as our Personal Savior.  I pray you have accepted Him but if you have not, I pray you will.  Secondly, we must obey His commandments. Now some people may think accepting in as your Savior is the hard part, but I tell you what obeying those commandments is extremely hard.  Since sin came into the world with Adam, we can not hide from it.  We are going to sin!  But that is why God sent Jesus Christ to die on the Christ for our sins.

Okay, I need a moment.  That is just so heartbreaking and joyful at the same time.  An innocent man, the only innocent man ever brought to earth, had to die a miserable death for me.  Thank you Jesus for dying for me so I can live with you in eternity.

Now, back to the commandments.  This is the hard part to me but knowing if I can keep them makes me very JOYFUL!  I will be rewarded by Jesus one day.   Now there are ten commandments.  If you do not know all of them, here is a link to them.

Now 10 may sound like a lot.  They are very detailed but to the point.  Moses was chosen by God to tell the people about the 10 Commandments in the Old Testament.  Now we know the Old Testament was written prior to Jesus being born.  I’m not saying we are not supposed to obey these because we are.

My point is this.  He also told us in Matthew what the greatest commandment is.

Matthew 22:36-40. (KJV)
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

If I love the Lord with all my heart and I love my neighbor, I will receive a reward when Jesus comes quickly.  Well 2 sounds easier than 10 commandments, however, if you read the 10 commandments this is just a summary of it.  Basically you love God and love others.  If you love others, you will treat them correctly, not kill them, not covet them, etc.  If you love God, you will not take His name in vain, you will observe the Sabbath, etc.

My point today is you can by JOYFUL knowing that you will receive the BEST REWARD you have ever received and could receive on this earth from God.  I would rather go without things on earth, to receive the greatest and best reward from God.

Would you rather have the gold watch or medallion or walk the golden roads in Heaven with Jesus?
Would you rather have money on earth or more riches in Heaven than you could ever imagine?
What will you choose to be JOYFUL over today?  The present things that are nothing and will vanish, or your future in Heaven – that is everything and forever?
