“Let us thank Him for our food”

God is great, God is good, Let us thank Him for our food.  By His hands we are all fed, Give us Lord our Daily Bread.  Amen.

I remember when I was little before each meal someone had to say the blessing. Of course mom and dad would say a beautiful not memorized prayer but the children would always repeat the one above.  We started learning it when we began to talk. It was exciting being chosen when you were a child.  I always had one problem with it and I still have it today.  Which comes first God is good or God is great?  I know it doesn’t matter because He is both. That is one of those mute points. On with the rest of the story.

I never had a problem knowing to thank Him for my food though. I knew we could not eat until we did Thank Him for our food.

What if before we do anything we had to say “Let us thank Him for……”?

Cutting our alarm clock off in the morning.

Getting out of bed.

Turning the coffee on.

Taking a shower.

Waking our children up.

Cranking our vehicle.

Driving in morning traffic.

Walking into work.

Going into a meeting.

Your child’s game.

Your doctors appointment.

Going to bed.

Now some of these items, you may have said a prayer due to what they were but the majority was just another part of the day.  We need to be more thankful for everything in our daily lives even the small things, the things we take for granted.

Thankful the alarm clock went off, you must have electricity.

Getting up out of bed, you must still be alive.

Taking a shower, you have water.

Before driving to work, you have a job and a way to work

Going to a child’s game, your child is well.

I guess you get the point.  There are so many things that we take for granted in our lives.  We do not realize how Good and Great God is.

Psalm 107:1-2(NLT)  1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.

We trust God to help us through the day and do not think twice about the small things we should thank Him for.

He is good to us.

He is great to us.

We should be thankful for He is good to us.

We should be thankful for He is great to us.

Is the only time you Thank God when you eat?  What about Thanking Him all day everyday?  What about Thanking God for being Good?  What about Thanking God for being Great?

What about Thanking God and saying a prayer more than before you eat?  What about Thanking God more every day for the small things?

So true! I am guilty of taking things for granted. One of my friends went on a mission trip & he said “Do you know what I was most thankful for when I got home?” I guessed his bed, a good place to sleep but he said “A glass of clean water.” Thank you, Jeanie, for the reminder to pay more attention to God’s goodness and to always have a thankful heart.
