1 As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
How long can the human body go without water?
How much water does the human body need daily?
Within a few seconds we can google these questions and have the answers very quickly. The internet says the human body can not go more than a week without water but of course climate, health conditions and other conditions can change this. It also states we need 9 to 13 cups of water depending on our sex.
Now can I change these questions around?
How long can the human body go without the “Living Water”?
How much “Living Water” does the human body need daily?
After googling these questions, the internet still thinks I’m talking about H2O, not God. We can find facts to back up the first 2 questions, but what about the “Living Water” questions?
There is a book that has the answers – THE BIBLE.
In the verses at the beginning, bible teaches us that animals and humans need water and pants for water. It also says our souls pants for God in the same way. My conclusion is we need must need God daily to survive just like we need water.
Do we die if we go more than a week without God like without water?
Do we die if we do not have God daily – 9 to 13 verses, chapters etc?
We may not die physically but we die spiritually. I’ll be honest, there were years I did not read the bible daily or every other day. I probably only read it on Sundays at church – if I remembered to take it because I did not know where my bible was.
But, now that I am trying to be the Christian God has called me to be, I do try to read the bible daily. In today’s world, we can have the bible on our phones, computers. We can have it playing when we get into our cars. There is no sense we can not read or listen to the bible daily with the society we live in now.
Imagine years ago. People only had the book and sometimes only had one version. We are so lucky to be living in these days.
So why don’t we read or listen to the bible?
We don’t have the time.
We don’t feel like it.
Too many people are looking.
But I bet you did drink water (or your favorite coffee, tea or soda today).
Why is it we so easily feed our body but not souls?
I can tell you for a fact, that the days I do not read at least a verse out of the bible I do not feel complete or full. Just like if I went all day and did not drink or eat – I would feel empty.
John 4:14. New International Version (NIV)
14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I want the water God gives. What about you?
Do you want H2O or do you want the Living Water?
