But God’s definition of promotion isn’t a move up the ladder, it is a move toward your call. Don’t let someone “promote” you out of your call
This morning while reading my devotion from Max Lucado he had the above comment. It was one of those times I had an “Aha” moment.
Just because we have a chance to be promoted or move into a different position, should we? It could be moving is further from God’s call.
Before saying “Yes” to the promotion I believe we should do a few things.
God may be wanting us to move up or it could be our own wants and not what is good for us. In the Bible, many people even after God spoke to them and told them what to do took things into their own hands. If it is not Gods will for us, it will not be our “Best Yes”!
So, before saying yes take some time to get alone with God and pray. Go to Him and give Him a chance to speak to you. Of course, don’t do all the talking. Let God have a chance. Remember you have 2 ears and not 2 mouths.
2. Read the Bible
Read about others in the Bible such as Abraham or David who knew Gods calling but decided to take things into their own hands. See what happened to them so this may not happen to you.
3. Seek Godly Counsel
Reach out to someone you feel is a good counselor. Talk to them about pros and cons. Tell them your feelings. Give them a chance to pray and see if God speaks to them about the situation.
If after taking the time to do these things, you feel God calling you to move up, then do it. If not remember God has better plans for you.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Deuteronomy 30:8-10 (NIV)
8 You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. 9 Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, 10 if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Matthew 5:-12 (NIV)
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
