Rule of Thumb

“Mommy, Tommy hit me,” said Little Johnny.

“But Mommy, Johnny hit me first,” said Tommy.

Unfortunately, I have only 1 child, so I do not know what the above really sounds like in my home.  But even though I have only 1 child there are 3 of us in the home, daddy, son and myself.

How many times have I asked who left the bag of chips open, or who got the last of the cookies?  It’s the same thing.  We deny it was us.  Don’t we?

Why is it so easy for us to say we didn’t do it or blame someone else? Or even treat someone else differently?

God never made us to treat others differently.  He wants us to treat others, just like we would like to be treated.

So, the next time you are talking about someone, judging someone, or not acting very nice to someone, think about how you would feel if you were treated that way.
