You are ignorant!
You will never become anything!
You are not educated!
Have you ever heard these comments above? Maybe not, but maybe you were treated differently due to color or race or family.
Sometimes it is very hard to rid ourselves of these negative labels. It really bothers me that so many people are labeled a certain way. Labels are good when you are labeling files and stuff in your home, but not good when you are labeling people.
I enjoy organizing and putting things in proper places. Labels can be like my best friend. But when it comes to a different type of label I do not have the same love.
Labels either we place on ourselves or others place on us sometimes come with that super duper stick. They are very hard to take off. They are very hard to remove. And if they are removed they sometime leave a small bit of glue still on them. You may still be able to tell where it was.
While sitting at home a few days ago with the sleet and freezing rain outside, I was catching up on some reading. I read the above verse in someone’s blog post. I’m sure I have read it before, but today it actually stuck to me a little different.
When I was in kindergarten and first grade, I had to go to a speech class several times a week. Now it could be because I did not go to a daycare. I stayed with my mom. My mom and dad are and were the best parents ever, but they may not have been the most educated. They both had to quit school and work. My dad had his on business and it was very successful. My mother my not can use a computer, but she knows how to cook, sew, farm, and be a great mom.
Just because my parents did not graduate, people may say I can’t learn. I can’t be educated. I can’t succeed.
And guess what? For a long time, I believed that! Those sticky labels are hard to remove.
But, as I have grown spiritually and read more of God’s word, I am learning, labels are ugly and mean and sticky and stinky!!!!
Since I was in kindergarten, I have always been nervous and thought I could not speak. I’m sure it is because I had to go to that special class, but guess what? Many people in the bible did not have “eloquent” speech but God used them in magnificent ways.
Exodus 4:10 (NIV) Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”
Moses was the one who delivered the Israelite’s out of Egypt and God gave the 10 commandments to. I do not think his “eloquent” speech bothered God.
God knew He could do it. God knew that because He could equip Moses.
Jesus chose Peter and John as disciples. Evidently they were uneducated and ignorant. But look what God equipped them to do.
Acts 4:13 (NIV) When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Peter and John taught people about Jesus. They healed people. But most of all they were chosen by Jesus to walk with Him.
Now why did God choose someone who couldn’t speak well, uneducated, and unschooled men?
I think it was to show each of us that with God we can do anything.
Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
With God, anything is possible.
Matthew 19:26 (NIV) Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
With God, we can accomplish anything.
Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
Why is it so much easier to believe the bad things instead of the good? If God calls us to do it, He will equip us. That’s all we need to remember. Even on those days those labels are still a little sticky on you, remember you can do it with God. Remember if God calls you to do it, He will equip you.
So what is that dream you have been putting off?
What is that thing you didn’t think you could do?
STOP! Take it to God! If it is in His plans, be certain He will equip you. Go out and make everyday count in 2016!!!!
