Quiet Time – Why Do We Make It So Hard?

AHA!  Can you say I just had an AHA moment and I couldn’t get on my blog quick enough to start typing.   I am currently involved in an OBS through Proverbs 31, “Becoming More Than Just a Good Bible Study Girl.”  During the study we can sign up for Conference Calls.  Can I just say these are so worth the money because they are recorded and you can listen anytime as many times as you need to?  Well that was what I was doing.  I hadn’t listened to this week’s and I decided after listening to it to go back and listen to all the weeks.   While listening to the closing prayer, it hit me like a jet plane.  Okay now on to my post.

We always ask everyone the following.

“How do you do your quiet time?”

“What do you do during your quiet time?”

The Bible is like our textbook for everything.  We have the 10 Commandments in Exodus. We have the story of Jesus.  We have the story of Moses, Jonah, David and so many others.  The Bible is an every ending book to learn from.

So why do we ask others what to do during our quiet time?

Why don’t we just read the Bible and see what Jesus done – who came and was all man?

Matthew 14:23 New International Version (NIV)

23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone,

Mark 1:35 New International Version (NIV)

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Luke 6:12 New International Version (NIV)

12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

The Bible tells us what Jesus done.

  • Go by yourself

  • Pray

In other words, go by yourself and pray, and God will be there and help you with the rest.

Now, I know you are saying, well that’s easier said than done.  But why don’t we just try it.  It’s simple.  Just do it.

We practice everything we do, so why don’t we just practice this.

Ball

Swim

Cooking

Driving

But I think the key thing for us to remember is – IT’S SUPPOSE TO BE SIMPLE.  God didn’t make this hard.  He made this so easy for everyone.  He made it so anybody can do.  He did not want this to be complicated.  He wanted it to be simple and easy!

Go by yourself and pray.

It can’t get much easier than that.  Anything else we want to learn to do there are so many steps.  Here there is just 2.

Go by yourself and pray!

So why don’t we just practice this everyday like we practice everything else.  I’m the first to admit that I have made it harder than it’s suppose to be.  I have hit snooze many times.  I have said I can’t do this I don’t know how.

But if we are intentional and just try – God will show up!!  He made it easy and simple!
