Verses containing the Parable:
I’ts actually Day 10 but I’m on Day 9 Post. I’m behind due to no electricity and lack of internet from a Hurricane but I’m alive and still have my home so I’m Blessed.
Today in #31DaysofWriting on the #31DaysofJesusParables, we are studying the Parable of the Vineyard Workers from the book of Matthew only.
There were some workers who went out early in the morning to work for a landowner. The workers and the landowner agreed on the wage up front. The landowner continued throughout the day of hiring more workers and did so up till about 5:00. When it was time for the workers to stop, the landowner had the foreman begin with the last men hired and pay them first. They received one denarius. The landowner continue with the same payment for the workers who worked 1 hour till the workers who worked all day.
Now the worker who began very early and worked more than all the other workers were disgruntled. They thought since the people who had not worked as long as they had received one denarius they would for sure receive more.
But they did not. They received the exact same amount. The workers forgot they agreed upon the one denarius when they started with the landowner. The other workers hired throughout the day did not agree on any money. Instead the landowner told them he would pay them “whatever is right.” The first workers soon forgot what they agreed upon so many hours before and thought since they had been working longer they would receive so much more.
In this parable, the workers are the people who have been called and saved by God. Whether you are saved at 10 and work for God for 50 years or whether you are called at age 50 and work for God for 10 years, you both receive the same thing.
I love this parable but to some people this may seem very unfair. They have worked and lived as good as could be expected most of their life but someone who did not receives the same thing, Salvation from God.
They may think since they worked 50 years and the other person only worked 10 years they should receive a Gold Mansion and the other person should receive a Bronze Mansion.
But not with God! God sent Jesus to die for everyone!
It makes me feel so good as a believer and someone who wants to work for God – to know people still have a chance till the moment they take their last breath. It reminds me that we can all still reach people for God.
So don’t be jealous or upset if you have been a believer for 30 or 40 or even 60 years. You have just been very Blessed those years.
Let’s just keep on reaching others for God – even people who have months, days or even hours to live.
