MATTHEW 18:12-14 (NLT)
“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out and search for the one that is lost? And he finds it , I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my Heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.”
My husband and son have deer dogs. The dogs are released in the hopes of them running a deer for someone to shoot. Now I know this may seem horrible, but we do eat the deer meat.
He has stayed late many nights trying to find his dogs. There have been times that his other dogs had to stay inside the dog box in the truck while he looked for one dog. The dog was not ready to leave. He was still looking him a deer. He was not done doing what he wanted to do. He wanted to stay in the woods because he was tired until his owner came and picked him up.
The verses referenced above are some what like this. The shepherd had one sheep who was lost. He left all the other sheep that were found to go find the one sheep that was lost.
I’m not sure if the sheep knew he was lost. He may have known where he was but his shepherd knew he wasn’t where he needed to be. He was not at his safe home away from the outside animals that would love to take him down. The shepherd knew he was the only one who could save this one lonely sheep. The sheep may have thought he could handle it, but the shepherd knew better.
Then the shepherd finds his lost sheep. He is so JOYFUL for the sheep because he knows he saved him from the mean coyotes. The shepherd knew the sheep could not find his way home without him. The shepherd had done his job finding he sheep and keeping him safe. The sheep and shepherd return home to their safe haven JOYFUL
Our Heavenly Father is just like the shepherd. We are His sheep and He is our shepherd. He is there to keep us safe. If one of His sheep wanders, He will leave the others (who He knew are safe) to find the one lost sheep.
Once He finds the lost sheep, He is JOYFUL He knows the lost sheep is now saved. He knows the lost sheep is under His protection.
I’m so JOYFUL knowing that my Heavenly Father loves everyone even the lost. He will search for the lost and find them and love them.
Are you a lost or safe sheep?
Are you helping God find the lost sheep?
Are you leading the lost sheep to the Lord?
Remember we are to help our Heavenly Father find, teach and rejoice with the lost. Love them and teach them the Joy of our Shepherd.
