Have you ever……
covet your neighbor’s posessions?
look at someone lustfully?
told a little white lie, or any lie?
or a million other bad things????
If no one has ever told you, I want to tell you…….
GOD STILL LOVES YOU!!!
And if you knew, I want to remind you
……GOD STILL LOVES YOU!!!
During my P31 OBS lesson today and the video from Lysa TerKeurst (link below if you want to watch for a limited time), she read the story about the Samaritan woman. Lysa was talking about God being the Living Water but I want to go in a different direction today.
Here is the verses, please read so you can follow along with the rest of the story. John 4:1-26
Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John— 2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples. 3 So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. 7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”17 “I have no husband,” she replied.Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
The Samaritan Woman was full of sin. She had had many husbands and was living with someone now. She was ashamed to go to the well when all the other ladies went because she was talked about and humiliated.
How many times have you avoided going somewhere because people knew your past and you may have been humiliated? How many times has this stopped you from experiencing something that was meant for you? (AHA).
Well, she went later in the day – during the heat of the day. She must really hated going when all the other people was there. But when she arrived, there was a man. At the time, she just thought it was a “Normal” Jew.
How many times have you been approached by someone who may have been “Normal” in your eyes, but sent by God to touch you?
During the conversation with this “Normal” Jew, she finds out this was no “Normal” Jew. She finds out that this man knew everything about her. He asked her a question and knew the answer before she answered.
How many times have you been asked a question, trying not to answer in the total correct way, only to find out the other person knew everything?
The story gets better. It’s not just a “Normal” Jew. THIS IS THE MESSIAH! The Messiah spoke to her and told her how to never be thirsty again, THE LIVING WATER. She was happy, ecstatic, excited.
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”15
We may be humiliated by our past or our current sins. We may be embarrassed by things we have said or done. We may think we could never be forgiven. We may think we can never do any good. We may think God doesn’t want to use me!!!
GOD LOVES YOU! GOD WANTS EVERYONE to know about the LIVING WATER!
It’s okay you have sinned. Jesus came and walked this earth, healed many people, spoke to the Samaritan woman, and died on the cross for you and me! His death takes away our sin debt.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 NIV
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace, Ephesians 1:7 NIV
I totally understand this is a lot to wrap our heads around. There are times I can’t even fathom this perfect, loving man would die such a horrible death for me. A TERRIBLE SINNER. But HE DID!!
What is holding you back from talking and asking God for forgiveness? Do you think you are not good enough? WRONG ANSWER…
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternallife. John 3:16 (NIV)
YOU ARE MORE THAN GOOD ENOUGH!
Ask for God’s forgiveness, be baptized, begin worshipping with Christians, begin praying to God and most importantly get into HIS WORD! It will not keep you from sinning, nothing can, but it will help you hear from God when you may have thoughts of sinning or when you do sin you know what to do…..
I pray that each person reading this KNOWS YOU ARE IMPORTANT! YOU ARE LOVED! YOU ARE SPECIAL! If not, get a Bible, open it and begin reading. You will learn just how much very quickly.
