2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I recently purchased a black chrome shelving unit to organize my extra room. Of course it comes in a box and it is not assembled. But once I take all the items out of the box, there is a booklet with directions. The directions are in several different languages so people who may speak a different language will be able to assemble the item.
After reading and following the directions, I had my beautiful black chrome shelving unit. All I had to do was buy it, bring it home, and follow the directions and I would have the end result I wanted. I was so excited.
I then began organizing the room with the shelving unit. When my husband got home, I was so joyful and had to show him what I had done. My mother called me and I was so excited to tell her about the shelving unit.
I would not have had the opportunity to be so joyful to organize the room and tell my husband and mom if I had not read the directions. Now, I may have been able to figure it out but it would have took a lot more time and probably a lot of agony. I’m sure if it wasn’t assembled correctly by the directions when I began putting all my stuff to organize on the shelves, it may have fell. As a result, reading the directions caused me to build the shelving unit and receive the final product I wanted and enjoyed.
I have a little secret.
The Bible was given to us for directions on how to live the way we should and what our reward will be. It clearly contains our road map on how our lives should be to spend eternity with God.
How much easier could it be??
Directions in black in white? How hard can that be?
So why is it we have Bibles with dust on them?
Why are we not joyful to sit down and read the Bible?
Why aren’t more people in church on Sunday, giving to the needy, and less crime in the world?
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
People, we need to read our directions every day. Just like we read directions on something we buy that needs to be assembled, we should read the Bible daily to receive direction on how to live our life. We know the scripture is true and God-breathed because the above verses state it. It is our direction on how to be equipped to live a life as a servant to God.
Matthew 7:26-27 (MSG). But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
How hard can it be now? We know there are directions out there. All we have to do is read the directions daily, follow the directions and we will live lives pleasing to our Lord.
Will you read your directions on how to live your Christian life daily?
Will you teach and tell others about the Bible??
Will your life be assembled by God’s Word or by the worlds directions?
Will you be joyful knowing your directions for your life are in God’s Word?
I pray you choose God’s Word.
